Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations
Commencing 1 July 2007 any business that manufactures, brands or imports electrical and electronic equipment are responsible for the cost of collection, treatment and recycling of obligated WEEE generated in the UK. The regulations also affect distributors and retailers of EEE as well as end users.

1- Producer obligations
WEEE Regulations are intended to transfer the responsibility (and the cost) of dealing with electrical and electronic equipment at the end of its life, from the user to the producer. As a producer, there are several requirements you have to meet. If you are not sure whether you  qualify as a WEEE producer, you can talk to us.

2- End-user obligations
Applies to Business and Commercial activities only.
Where producer compliance schemes do not apply in relation to non-household WEEE, the last user is responsible for treatment, recycling and environmentally sound disposal of all forms of WEEE. Also, where producer compliance schemes might apply, the regulations do allow for negotiation between producers and business users over the allocation of responsibility for non-household WEEE.

At the moment end-users do not have the obligation to use  authorised treatment facilities only.
